Ghayal, Ghatak, Khakhee, Damini, Pukar, The legend of Bhagat Singh, Barsaat & Andaaz Apna Apna....what is the common link between all these bolllywood blockbusters??... its RAJ KUMAR SANTOSHI . When someone is associated with movies of such a grade, its obvious that the expectations are quite high! But unfortunately with APKGK, he just disappoints us.
The story is quite simple & straight. Our hero falls for a girl, takes all the pains he can, but the girl doesn't see that because she is in love with some another guy, who is kinda stupid & loves less than our hero(ofcourse!), & this very fact is realized by the lady suddenly, when she is on the verge of getting married! To be straight there is nothing "ajab or ghazab" in this "Prem's kahani"! You know everything from the starting itself.
This is seriously not expected from a person who has given us an all time comedy like Andaaz Apna Apna. The movie is full of low-brow & high school humor. Most of the scenes are completely stupid & predictable(most of them are old jokes). Some scenes are so silly that they make you feel as if you are watching some amateur work. Ranbir & Katrina look excellent on screen, but there’s nothing more out there, no comedy, no romance. There are just a handfull moments in the movie which actually make you laugh. The stammering protagonists made an interesting effect initially but it was used quite inappropriately many a times & that too in excess. Even the production values are below standards!
For me only two things, made it bearable. Firstly, melodious music by Pritam. Secondly, Ranbir Kapoor. You will just love this awesome actor with a fantastic comic timing. He made even average scenes also look damn hilarious. Darshan Jariwala (as Prem's father) & Smita Jaykar (as Prem's mother) were also very impressive. These three together have given the best scenes in the movie, which infact are really very funny! But rest of all, simply overload of overacting, none of them was seriously interested in comedy there. Zakir Hussain (as Sajid Don) also tried to bring in some humor, but all efforts in vain (it was very loud too!). Salman Khan also does a cameo in it.
The movie has already grossed crores, mainly due to the hype created & the publicilty of the movie. But if you are really interested in slapstick comedy, or if you love movies for their music, or you are a big Ranbir Kapoor fan, don't miss this one!

I liked it when u said "no ajab nor gajab" Infact 'happy club' ka funda bhi kam chamka & worst was narration by the statue which didn make ny sense. I liked the scene btw Ranbir & Darshan when he says, "aaj tak beton ne hi naam roshan kiya hai, aapne kabhi kisi ke baap ka naam suna" :D
Stammering idea was soon repeated after Kaminey
well....at d vry begnin wen ya cited dose muv names excpt AAA rest f d muvs r rightly outshone by dis flik....."d story s simple n straight" shudnt hv been cited as a -ve bt as a +ve instead.....d story ws "projctd" 2 b simply sweet widout rndm twists....t s required dat ny1 who goes watchin dis flik shud go widout a bendd mind frame or prticulr xpctns...let d muv tk u in its charm alongwid ranbir's charizma n u l cherish dis flik :)
a simple storyline is neither a positive nor a negative point but wen it is presented in a hopelessly archaic manner then it does become a negative point...n all those movies including AAA are among the best that bollywood has today...they keep u gripped till the end... expectations wr to witness a gud muv,not those jokes wich we have heard long time back in our childhood days...no doubt ranbir is charming n d best one to watch in dis role..there wr only 3 reasons dat i watched dis muv til the end...ma gf, muv n ranbir :)
APKGK had one of the sloppiest opening 20 minutes in the recent times ..... but come on ... after 1/3 of the movie was over there were many many good scenesin the movie.... Chalu Chaplin for example ... climax chaotic fighting wasn't bad too .. and lastly the Jesus scene was good ... because he initially says that he is playing a character in a play that scene was real good
@rishabh
....."archaic" wud hv been d last wrd 2 dscrib dis flik...pardon my ignornce if dose muv u mntnd kept evry1 gripin til d end...bt i think if a flik s able 2 create a needed hype in d beg n leav u wid a charm in d end ...lik dis 1 did ...t s worth givin a try!!...add in t d 3 elmnts u mntnd:ranbir,muv n bf n t l bcm fab!!;)
no offences !! :)
i appreciate ur liking for the movie.. it has already been declared as one of the biggest grosser of 2009..i just have a different view :)
@ "But if you are really interested in slapstick comedy, or if you love movies for their music, or you are a big Ranbir Kapoor fan, don't miss this one!"
there is no slapstick humour in the movie.it's rather of the most perverse and juvenile nature.Music is no more than mediocre.
'Andaz Apna Apna'is still available on CDs/DVDs.Why waste time/money on flimflam?
