Aankhein Movie Review | Critique | Hiest Movies Special

Rating-3/5 Stars

Aankhein came out in 2002, with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan towering over the rest of the cast in terms of strature. Others included Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Sushmita Sen and Paresh Rawal.

What if you have a HUGE ego and intelligent criminal mind and somebody takes away only thing you ever made? Wrath. One, Vijay Singh Rajput (Mr. Bachchan) plans a heist to rob his former bank, to teach them a lesson. He makes an ingenious move to get three blind men to do the job. He ropes in Neha (Sushmita Sen) to train 3 such men.

3 men picked for the job have interesting characters. Iliyas (Paresh), the clown of the three, was made blind as a boy to beg on the streets. Arjun's, the simpleton, later developes feelings for Neha. Vishwas (Akshay) is the smartest of the three, having an acute sixth sense.

It works as a heist movie as it has an element of looming danger, an interesting premise, comic relief in form of Paresh Rawal. The sequence of their training has been put together really well; The replica of bank that is set up for training; Vishwas who many times nearly finds out presence of Mr Bachchan during the training are shot brilliantly.

Housefull The Review | The Critique

Rating: 1/5

Waste… if a five letter word can describe the movie, this would be it. Man, you had an average story that could have been sculpted into a nice watchable movie and you added so many unnecessary spices… my question is why the hell?? Akshay Kumar, Reitesh Deshmukh and Sajid Khan trio means mindless-laugh-riot but the somehow just ruined it. I missed AK of Bhool Bhulaiya and Hera Pheri.

A boy aka bad-luck gets married to a girl who runs away with her boyfriend and finally meets his love of life. Now, he needs to make his brother-in-law happy and also, unscrew the screwed–up life of his friend and his wife. Obviously, he succeeds. Seems an okay-okay plot? Yeah. Now, big question where it went wrong? Akshay as the I-am-bad-luck alias Panauti is the real problem. He is doing things he should not and that performance is not making viewers laugh at all. Reitesh is messed up. Arjun, as usual plastic. Deepika and Lara did nothing except flaunting their bodies. I think they did justice to their roles as show-pieces.

Excessive use of irritating “panauti” in background ruins everything spared. Every time you hear that word, you feel like cussing. Music is average adnd direction is weak. God bless the movie… Infact there was a particular good scene in the movie… the boy next to me in theatre later told that it was trailer of Raajneeti.

The Critique: Sangharsh

Sangharsh-horror thriller released in 1999, marked several milestones in hindi film industry. This was the second film by Tanuja Chandra as a director, and like her other films till date, it too went unnoticed. Preity Zinta playing the role of a CBI trainee proved to be a new talent coming up in the industry. Akshay Kumar had this as one of the turning points in his career, and now could be put in the bracket of actors. Ashutosh Rana is undoubtedly a superb performer but this was definitely 'the role of his life' and won Filmfare Best Villain Award for this.

The story was by Mahesh Bhatt, and his movies are famous to have stark similarity with some hollywood film (ofcourse by chance) and this one too was no exception. The plot of the movie is very similar to Academy Award-winning film that came 8 years before, "The Silence of the Lambs".

A series of child abduction becomes a serious problem for the police force, who designates trainee Reet Oberoi (Preity Zinta) to solve the case. The investigation points towards a fanatic Lajja Shankar Pandey (Ashutosh Rana) who believes Goddess Kali will grant him immortality if he sacrifices the lives of children. Reet cannot handle the pressure alone due to her traumatic childhood and her phobias, hence seeks help from an unjustly implicated genius Professor Aman Verma (Akshay Kumar) going through hardcore imprisonment. The case becomes more complicated as Chief Minister's only son is kidnapped by Pandey. Aman is rude and adamant but as they track down Pandey together, he falls in love with Reet. The child is saved and Pandey is killed. Aman also is seriously hurt and dies in Reet's arms sharing the last and first kiss, a heart touching moment.

The music by Jatin Lalit is splendid which made it position to the charts though movie could not. It’s the music which has yet kept the movie memorable, as justice was not done to the story leaving no other thing to remember it for.
