Ready | Dhink Ka Chika... | Critique

I wanted to wait for sometime before writing a review. I wanted the dust to settle. I wanted to let the foolhardiness of Anees Bazmee overshadow remarkable work by Salman. I wanted to write like a reviewer than a die-hard Salman Khan fan. After sleeping over it for two nights, I finally rate it 2/5. Salman and ‘Character Dheela’ earned three stars, minus one for everything else in the movie.

When first made in Telugu, Ready was a story of a guy who just came out of college. It was definitely not a custom role for Salman. Thankfully, Salman has realized that he can’t do what Aamir did so convincingly in 3 Idiots and crew chopped of many scenes in the first half. Nevertheless, that was the first blunder. In Ready (2008), Ram and Genelia did an amazing job in those scenes. The kidnapping scene and the consequences were really charming. Those scenes were removed and replaced with cunningness of Asin’s character which looked very bad on screen. Also, this didn’t allowed the romance to seep into the characters. This romance was the high for the Telugu version. Scriptwriter (was there one??) should have applied some brain. Hence, comedy was the only resort for the movie… Fortunately Paresh Rawal did a fair job (though he was no match to Brahmanandam. Other actors were mostly over the top. Asin was bad in first half and just okay in second half.

Rest of the story was same. Girl has two uncles who want their relatives to marry her because she has about 200 crores assets. Uncles are fighting. there is a mother’s last wish and a determined boyfriend who can turn the world upside down for her. Scenes were direct copy and for the first time in my life, I felt good about it. Had Annes Bazmee tried to do something else… Due to the rip-offs there is something to watch out for in this movie.

Salman was the only good thing about the film. His acting, comic timing and dance will make you smile. You can feel that he is enjoying his work. That reflects in his on-screen aura. Music is ok and Pritam has done a good job with google and youtube. Cinematography is just ok. Direction is so Anees Bazmee that even he won’t be proud of this fact. I think it’s high time to go on strike to ban Anees Bazmee from making movies.

Dabangg Movie Review | Critique

"H*r*mz*d* se yaad aaya, aapke pitaji aajkal kaise hai?" Dabangg is all about Chulbul Pandey and his life laced with a style and attitude thatr has become a signature of Salman. Yes... as the promo suggested... Dabangg is out and out a Salman Khan movie; one you can enjoy only if you are Salman Khan Fan.

From the first fight sequence of Salman's introduction and a signature kick-ass fight with dacoits of Lalganj to the last one-on-one with Cheddi in his Cheddi's own pocket; each fight scene is over the top; however supercool and superbly choreographed. But action is not the highlight of this movie. There is an amazing love story between a suitable boy- Chulbul and a suitable girl-Rajo who will not marry till her father is alive. But romance is definitely not the highlight of this movie... The highlight of this raw movie is the antic or antics se yaad aaya... chulbulapan, of Chulbul Pandey.

Humor is the high of this movie. The antics fire the rawness of humor and the outcome is a superb cinematic experience that can make you yell, scream, shout, whistle and even dance in theatre... Music, except for Peeni Hai and Munni Badnaam ; brings in calmness in otherwise a high voltage movie. Peeni Hai and  Munni Badnaam steps up the voltage and make you shake your legs.

Performances. Salman as Chulbul is  simply awesome. Sonu Sood is a revelation. As a villain, he complements Chulbul. Sonakshi. I have resvations about her caliber as an actress. In some scenes she stands out but overall she is just average. Everyone else... umm I didn't noticed...

Is this a great movie? Well, if you judge by what a movie aims at, I will say YES. It wanted to entertain you and I guess it did. So, a must watch for a Salman Khan fan...

Salman Khan: Amidst Troubles | Hammers High | Part 2

The team of Suraj Barjatya and Salman Khan has been incredible. Together they gave two biggest hits of all time- Mine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hai Kaun. They came again together for another family drama- Hum Sath Sath Hai. This time history was not repetitive. HSSH turned out to be an average movie. Today, the movie is not known for being a subtle adaptation of Ramayan. Its remembered for some wrong reasons.

Even today the memories haven't fainted. Courtesy; the famed Chinkara killing case. Chinkara is an endangered species and this poaching case is still a matter subjudice of Rajasthan court. Currently, Salman is on bail. A jail inmate of Salman was supposed to be helping in a movie based on this case but as the things later came out, nothing happened after initial discussion and the project was dropped.

Another case that will not leave Salman for some time is the rash driving case that lead to unfortunate death of a homeless fellow and injured three others. Salman, allegedly in a drunken state ran his car into a bakery in Mumbai. This accident cost one death. This matter is still in courts. Interestingly, the witnesses have been changing statements on pretty regular basis.

The list of controversies never leaves Salman. Alleged fight with SRK, fatwas against him for celebrating Ganeshotsava and his wax idol being showcased in Madame Tussads... the list simply goes on. His acting skills are bashed and he is accused for not taking his work seriously. Despite of all this, he is loved by his friends and in circles of Bollywood. Amazing isn't it?

Salman Khan: Amidst Troubles | Hammers High | Part 1

When Tere Naam was released, it was an instant blockbuster. Even today, masses love his movies. Salman is such a darling phenomenon. Industry loves him for his goodness. People watch his movies with great enthusiasm. They whistle for him and according to a poll, a majority believe that he is unnecessarily framed into cases just because he is a celebrity.

Why I started with Tere Naam. This blockbuster showcased a love story of a violent person who falls in love and in process gets ruined. Promos, tagline and songs along with the central theme of the story lead people believe that the movie was loosely based on his romance and after break-up woes with Aishwarya Rai. This was a wrong notion that brought public to theatre and a brilliant performance mesmerized them. Tere Naam had nothing to do with Salman-Aishwarya story.

During shooting of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Salman and Aishwarya came closer and were allegedly in a relation for some time. The relation suffered an end due to Salman's possessiveness and alleged harassment. However, even after breakup, both stars never spoke anything to explain that. So, most of the things in news can be considered to be inauthentic only. Interestingly, Viveik Oberoi (who claimed to be Ash's beau; something she never recognized on record) called up a press-conference and claimed that Salman constantly called him and verbally abused him. Salman kept mum on this issue. However, this didn't go well with other members of Bollywood fraternity and his career suffered a steep downfall.

Despite of his issues with Aishwarya, relation with Bachchan family has been cordial. That speaks volumes about him and his goodwill.

London Dreams Movie Review | Critique

Rating-***1/2

Vipul Shah, has become one of the most successful names in the industry, giving us blockbusters like Aankhein, Waqt, Namastey London, Singh is Kinng(producer) & RHTDM(writer). Now, his latest flick "London dreams” stars Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and  Asin in the lead.

London Dreams is a story about dreams, friendship, talent & love and how all these come in each others way. Basically, the story deals with a guy who cannot handle the success & fame of his childhood friend and goes against him. Although the story is not new, but the treatment of the movie is very fresh and very gigantic. Shot fantastically, some scenes impress you so much that you don't forget them even after leaving the hall. Like when Salman Khan composes different genres of music with same lyrics and music, by just changing the style, or when he first time jumps into the crowd (the scene is shot fantastically), or the Bhatinda night scene when Salman is drunk. But the most impressive part of the movie is Salman Khan! Yes, you simply will love him and the role played by him. You laugh on his jokes, you feel bad when he cries, you infact enjoy each and every moment when he is in the movie. Its one of the best performance by him till date!

The complete movie is shot in a darker tint, which I consider as a very good experiment. It is technically excellent & has lavish production values. Background score by Salim-Suleiman is class, however the one that's used in the second half is similar to the one used in Batman Begins, but full points to them coz it really increases the pace of the movie. Cinematography by Sejal Shah is spectacular and the rock concerts are filmed quite well. The overall cinematic experience is so good that I stopped thinking about the weaknesses of the movie. Also, the movie is been treated very harshly by the critics, it deserved better reviews.

Actually, Vipul Shah made a few blunders with the movie, which went strongly against the movie. The first one is casting Ajay Devgan as a Popstar. No doubt he is a fabulous actor but this is not his cup of tea. Secondly, when you are making a musical, you ought to have good music in it. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have disappointed a lot this time. If these two factors would have gone right then it would have been loved by everyone for sure. Asin also doesn't have much to do in the movie except dancing ! Ranvijay and Aditya were good.

Overall, the movie is good and a hell lot better than those that have released recently. It can be watched once at least although there was scope to make the movie better. I would conclude by saying that - "The painting may not be magnificent but the canvas is."
