Unthinkable happened on 22 January, 2008. Heath Ledger, aged 28, had expired. As shockwaves swept the entertainment industry, the question remained. Why?
Few days before his death, Heath had discussed with his co-star that he had been having trouble with his sleep. He said to his co-star, “Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night. ... I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.”
His death had a lot to do with role of Joker in ‘The Dark Knight’. This is because, to prepare for his role, he kept himself locked in his room for days together staying awake for days. He did so, to understand Joker, his psyche and his chaotic ways.
Although Heath had always had Insomnia, but Joker role escalated it to a greater degree.
Moreover it all grew worse, when he was shooting The Dark Knight, the hectic schedule took toll on him.
All this meditation with character of Joker, payed off superbly, as Heath pulled off one of best roles in history of cinema. He nailed the role perfectly. He added details that weren’t present to even original Joker from comic book. He gave us one of best villains of all time.
But alas, he had given too much to Joker. He could no loner sleep in peace anymore; this eventually lead to his sleeping pill overdose.
Sadly a budding career came to a sad end.
Dear Heath, you will be missed.
